Hate to burst your color bubble.

Okay, sit down because this is a good one.

Inspired by the book Mix It Up by Herve Tullet, we did some color mixing experiments in our outside art room. And we did our experimenting in… are you sitting down? Okay, Good. We did our color mixing INSIDE BUBBLE WRAP.

I know right? Amazing.

Before you begin this experiment make sure that your bubble wrap is fresh. Tight. POPPABLE. Because the fuller the air bubbles are the easier it will be for tiny hands to puncture them and fill them up with color.

How to: You need 1 inch bubble wrap, tape, liquid droppers, food coloring, cups, water, a towel and a window. We did it in our outdoor art room where we don’t have to care about the messes we make, so I didn’t put a towel in the windowsill, but you’ll probably want to put a towel down if you do this experiment on the inside of a window in your home or classroom.

Tape the bubble wrap up in the window. Fill a dropper up with colored water and poke it through the top of the bubble and squirt water in. Add different colors, MIX IT UP! (see what I did there? You’re Welcome, Herve.)

What for: Color Science. Exploration. Fine Motor. Hand-eye Coordination. FUN.
